Here are some pictures from last nights staff meeting at Casbah (3628 Saint Johns Ave.). We have to say this, the food was good (as usual), but the service was the most suck-ass EVER!! We all agree that we will not be returning for a staff meeting. It seems that 10 peeps were just too much to handle. None of the food came out at the same time, people had to ask numerous times for silverware and drinks. It took about 45 minutes for the hookah that Cindy ordered to arrive AND, to top it all off, it took an INSANE amount of time to get our checks; and when they arrived, they were all wrong! Sorry Casbah, you're service quality has really taken a dip and it will probably be quite some time before any of us return.

Yeah there service sucks, espically at night. The only times i seem to get descent service is during off hours(afternoon) during the week.
I just found this site, and am happy to contribute my reviews from all the places I've tried out over my 8 years in Jacksonville.
Casbah is one of the first places I ever went to in JAX. I was over from Gainesville visiting some friends, and we dropped in. I went back dozens of more times, right up to this year.
Every single time, same thing. Good food, especially the hummus, but the worst service you can imagine. You need to set aside 2 hours to eat here, because it will take that long or longer.
Mixed bag. If you have time and patience, then the food is good. The service is so bad that it borders on rude, though.

Enough said.
Casbah is awesome. It is a place to go and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and great food. If you are in such a hurry when eating out you should explain to your wait staff and I'm sure they would accommodate you. By the looks of the crowd that is always there after so many years, they must be doing something right.
Try the new place in San Marco, It is alot better than the Casbah. Better foods, Service and you can smoke your hookah and drink crown R.
I did the switch and Layla's by far is a better Hookah Bar....

Casbah can be good for "unintentional entertainment". I once saw a table of 10+ people get reamed out by management and thrown out of the restaurant for putting weed in the hookah. That was SOME $h!t to watch.
As to the restaurant though, yeah it sucks. The food's alright, but the staff are royally snotty and the service is so crappy that you almost take it personally.
My husband and I have been going to the Casbah for our date nights for a couple months now and every time we go it is a great experience.
Aside from the food being fantastic, the atmosphere is relaxed and the servers are so personable.
We've tried some other hookah lounges around Jacksonville and this one tops them all when it comes to good food and service.
For being a place that is always busy, my husband and I agree that the Casbah provides a great experience for those who want to relax in a unique atmosphere and have a great meal.
I don't really understand why is all this hate going on about The Casbah. I've lived in Jacksonville for over 5 years and have been to The Casbah more times than I can count. I can't think of one time where I wasn't treated with the utmost respect and taken care of far beyond my expectations. The food is great, the atmosphere is unrivaled, and beyond that, the servers go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
If you want a fake smile, a minimum of 15 pieces of flare, and fried chicken, go to Chotchkies.
I have an answer for you, it's called Racism, that about all the hate you see.
If you're wondering why you sit 2 hours before you find a place to sit in that's a prove of the excelent food and service they provide, that's why people keeps going there again and again and you can't find a place to sit very easy.
I dunno if the racism argument holds up, Im half Syrian and a good friend of Jason and the Bahalia's. Casbah truly has the best Arabic food in Jax. The service was awesome back in the day when Jason was always there and Jon Insetta was running the place. Now it's like everything was passed on and nobody knows what's going on, food wise and everything. I still hold a special place in my heart for Casbah but wish it was like it was about 5-10 years ago.
+1 on the "wish it would go back to 5-10 years ago" thing. Casbah used to be good, now the service is just plain awful. It takes 2 hours to eat there, even when they're not busy, and your drink glasses etc. will be empty the entire time.
