Dont Drink The Water! (At Least, Not THAT Much of It)

The Sacramento County, Calif., Sheriff's Department has launched a criminal investigation into a water-drinking contest that turned fatal.

Preliminary autopsy findings indicate 28-year-old Jennifer Strange died of water intoxication. She died just hours after drinking nearly two gallons of water in a contest put on by KDND-FM.

Sheriff's deputies said they listened to a tape in which the station's disc jockeys joked about the dangers of drinking too much water. They also told listeners the contestants had signed releases.

Strange was trying to win a Nintendo Wii gaming console in the stunt that involved seeing how much water contestants could drink without going to the bathroom. Strange finished second, winning concert tickets. But hours later, she died. During the contest, Strange had complained her head hurt.

The station's parent company has fired ten employees connected to the contest. It's also taken the morning show off the air.
