So, the guy (Roger Dale Phillips, 26) who was driving the SUV that struck Officer Corey Russ' Police Car (killing the officer) on Dec. 30 was charged this week with DUI.
This is particularly newsworthy because 34-year-old Corey Russ was off-duty as he was driving his Jacksonville Sheriff's Office cruiser at 5 p.m. on Forsyth Street (a one-way street) THE WRONG WAY!
Roger Dale Phillips' blood alcohol level was JUST over the legal limit.
We arent by any means condoning drunk driving, but we would like to suggest that our Police Officers obey the laws of traffic and drive in the right direction on our one-way streets.
