Nestor, The Long-Eared Christmas Donkey

This will be a blast from the past for some of you and a lot of you have probably never even heard of Nestor, The Long-Eared Christmas Donkey. This little known holiday movie first aired in 1977 and has been shown intermittently since. Nestor...was never popular like such favorites as Rudolph (*Airs Tonight at 8pm on CBS), Frosty the Snowman, or A Charlie Brown Christmas; probably because it deals more with Christian views and less with gift giving and Santa Claus.

Heres a basic synopsis from IMDB:

Back in the days of the Roman Empire, a small donkey is born with VERY long ears, that keep getting him into trouble. When his owner throws him out of the stable in disgust, his mother sacrifices her life to save him from a blizzard. And, guided only by his guardian cherub (Tilly), he has to find his rightful place and destiny, somewhere on the road to Bethlehem.
And now, may we present to you, commercial-free (but in 3 parts)......Nestor, The Long-Eared Christmas Donkey.....

Part 1

Part 2

I remember this very well... and I'm not ashamed to say that it made me cry like a baby when it came on! A sad but touching story.
