New Restaurant

The newest restaurant in town is 1171 located at, appropriately, 1171 Edgewood Avenue in Murray Hill (across from Moon River Pizza and Heads Up Salon). Robin stopped by on Saturday and took a few pictures of the newly renovated space with his camera-phone (hence the sorta-crappy quality). He also spoke with Holly and Fernando about a possible Jacksonville Confidential food critique, which we plan to do real soon.

Holly sent us over ALL of their menus - Tapas, Lunch, Dinner, Dessert - and everything sounds fantastic. Due to the enormity of the menus, we have picked out a few things that we will definitely want to try when we patronize 1171. For full menus, click on the links below....

Tapas

  • Crab Cakes served with Butternut Squash and Sweet Corn Relish,
    finished with Citrus Beurre Blanc
  • Thai Salad of Mixed Greens tossed with Fresh Cilantro and Mint, topped with Sweet Chili Vinaigrette and marinated Jumbo Shrimp or Chicken

Lunch

  • Niçoise Salad: Composed Salad including Baby Greens, Haricot Vert, Baby New Potatoes, Tomatoes, Niçoise Olives and Lemon Aioli
  • Sliced Herb-Marinated Flank Steak in Fresh Pita Bread with Romaine Hearts, Tomatoes and Remoulade
  • 1171 Signature Hamburger with Caramelized Onions, Fresh Greens and Horseradish Havarti
  • Scallops & Shrimp tossed with Capers, Calamata Olives, Crushed Tomatoes and Fresh Feta served over a Fettuccini Nest

Dinner

  • Filet Mignon atop roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, served with Bordelaise Sauce, sautéed Wild Mushrooms and Sautéed Seasonal Vegetables
  • Brined Pork Chops served over Roasted Apple and Sweet Potato Mash with Calvados Demi Glâce, offered with Frisée Mackintosh Salad tossed with Sherry Cider Vinaigrette
  • Grilled Ahi Tuna with Soy Ginger Glaze on Wasabi Mashed Potatoes, garnished with Baby Bok Choy and Pickled Ginger
  • Blackened Salmon over Crispy Coconut Rice Galette with Guava Sauce,
    served with Honey-Glazed Baby Carrots

Desserts

  • 1171 Signature Gingerbread Cake, served with Warm Apple Compote, Caramel Sauce and Fresh Whipped Cream
  • Citrus Cheesecake topped with Fresh Strawberries and served with Raspberry Coulis

The prices seem to be on par, though we haven't actually eaten any of the food yet, and are extra competitive because you can get half portions of the entrees.

They also have a private dining area for special events or a more intimate experience.

If any of our readers have tried 1171 out already, please let us know what you thought. Be on the lookout for a review real soon.

Absolutely fabulous. The decor, the staff, the food. Thanks for the great all around dining experience. Prices are right, good menu selection, food is delicious. Will certainly return.

Good new beginning.
Tiffany, one of the bartenders is very good.
Had seafood pasta for lunch, excellent and reasonably priced. The "steak" sandwich was a joke, only about 2.5 oz. of steak on a nice roll with yellow and red tomatoes and spring mix. If there was more steak it would have been good. Wine prices reasonable, need more medium priced chardonnays. The bread was good when warm however as it got cold it got tough.
One mistake on menu about sides: the French fries and sweet potato fries look like they were combined, however they are not and they charged an additional $2.95 for a side of fries when it needed to be included. Their "soon-to-be-famous" sauce for the fries was excellent.
I will give them another chance.

My fiancé and I visited 1171 with two of our coworkers for lunch. We tried two of their salads, a pasta dish, and the grilled chicken sandwich. The sandwich was awesome! As were the sweet potato fries with the "soon-to-be-famous" sauce. Although I was skeptical at first, the sweet potato fries were exceptionally crispy and the garlic in the sauce went well with them. The staff is very friendly. I'm excited to read that they have a tapas menu.

When are these guys going to learn? At this very location, we've been through West River, another one I have forgotten the name of already ( short lived psuedo fine dining place with an annoying corkage fee added to each bottle purchased). The neighborhood is not geared towards fine dining. While their lunch menu looks somewhat affordable, they are going to struggle at dinner. Moon River does a good business across the street, because they understand the market a little better.

This is such a great place! My wife and I have been here twice. It is very open, but when full it is not so loud that you can't hear others at your table. We've had the Low Country Shrimp My Way, the chicken dish, filet mignon, and salmon, the chocolate mousse and the gingerbread cake. All has been fabulous and the service is great! We will be back again very soon.
