5 Guys Burgers and Fries - Riverside

We finally made it to the new 5 Guys Burgers and Fries (1620 Margaret Street) here in Riverside, here's our take on a basic order.

Jason ordered a little hamburger, a small order of fries, and a soda. Luckily we were warned of the sheer size of the burgers and the little hamburger was just enough, especially considering the amount of grease dripping off of it. The burger was just OK, but the choice of 15 FREE toppings was pretty impressive. We had ours with grilled mushrooms and onions. The big WOW factor was definitely the "small" fries, it was basically half a bag full. Crispy and seasoned, the fries were the best part of the meal. Rounded out with a Sprite Zero the meal was very filling.

Our take on 5 Guys Burgers and Fries, save your money and go enjoy a Wendys single instead, the burger joint didn't really live up to the hype.

The one in riverside is no good. Trust me, there's a world of difference between the one out there and the one in St. Johns Towncenter or the one on Southside (my personal favorite).

Before you write off five guys I think you should check out the other locations, it's the difference between night and day.

been to the one in oakleaf, also not impressed, the guy behind the counter hollered out he would buy it back if it wasn't the best hamburger I'd ever had...should've gotten my money back

We still need more places like this with fair portions...Not "Boutique" food. Keep in mind the reviewers actually ate sausages at the fair (Rat on a stick)

Bought into the hype and tried this place with Mike the other day. The burger was ok, it was marginally higher quality than a Wendy's or BK (but not by that much).

The fries were so-so at best, I got the "seasoned" ones and they were kind of falsely advertised if you want to know the truth. They weren't seasoned fries at all, just regular french fries that someone had dumped a ton of paprika on top of.

This place is on the expensive side for fast food too, it was like $28 for our two burgers, two fries, and two sodas.

Definitely not worth it. Especially now that all the redneck construction guys have picked up on it, and there's usually a line stretching out the door at lunch time. I don't get the attraction, it's not that great.

Did someone actually say that Wendys was a better option? I guess this is the same person that was raving about 13 Gypsies. I bet they thought Preservation was a great place too. The fact that everyone has pointed out that there is a line stretching out the door at lunch, should serve as an indication as to the perception of 5 Guys in the marketplace.

Wendys...really? Have you been there and seen the people making the food? Wendys??

Ya, we'll see how long that line lasts. Give it time, people will get tired of 35 minute lines to pay $15 apiece for a marginal fast-food lunch. And I guess you really can't call it "fast" food, in any case. LOL.

And no I don't think wendy's is good food, that's why I compared it to 5 Guys. Just letting people know what they're in for. And I hated Preservation Chop House, and I am not a 13 Gypsies fan either. I do know what good food is, and this isn't it.

Been there once and its time to throw it under the bus, already, after one visit.

Uh, this is Jacksonville, we don't have new restaurants opening up all the time around town, let alone Riverside/Avondale. Why don't you visit them more than once, sort of like the Restaurant Inspectors do, and then give us the repeat grades?

Besides, we all know there is more to do than scan youtube for the latest "it"

I've been to the 5 Guys near the airport half a dozen times and have always been satisfied. I'd rather eat there than Wendy's ANY day.

When you want a burger, you WANT one dripping with fat. If you want lean cuisine, eat a salad fer cryin' out loud. :)

What an arrogant and uninformed review. I've been going to Five Guys for years since they first opened here on Southside Blvd. The burger is simply hands-down the best fast-food burger you'd get anywhere. The ambience for which they are legendary wasn't even mentioned in your article. (Don't quit your day job to become a critic, in other words.) And, Wendy's? Really?

I think you guys are forgetting, this place is a franchise. J.C. tried and reviewed the Riverside location, not any of the other ones. They may be O.K., but I can say firsthand that the Riverside one blows.

"The ambience for which they are legendary wasn't even mentioned in your article.", WTF dude? "Legendary" and "ambience" don't have anything to do with this place. I guess a dozen screaming kids throwing peanuts around, and bitchy people all trying to cut each other in line, combined with painfully slow staff, sure do make for a "Legendary" experience, but not in the way you're suggesting...LOL

I'm a fan of 5 guys having been to the one in Oakleaf, OP Mall and this one. The burgers are good, period. The fries are good, period.

I wouldn't feed Wendy's to my dog.

You guys missed the mark. Maybe you guys should head back to Zoe's for the bland food that you love so well.

Yeah, 5 Guys is better than Wendy's. But for "fast" food, 5 Guys is lacking some important things...like mainly being FAST! It takes 30-40 minutes to eat at that place, even when they're not busy. And don't feed me that "cooked to order" crap, so is Burger King and I don't have to wait a half hour to get a burger there.

The other problem with 5 Guys is they're waaaaaaaay overpriced. A couple burgers, sodas, and fries, and you're looking at somewhere close to $30. For that price, I'll go to 13 Gypsies and get better food, thanks!

5 Guys at the Airport is awesome. I think you should try them again. The prices are pretty steep but they serve higher quality meat. I would definitely not recommend Wendy's over this place. Try the River City marketplace establishment!

after doing some shoppin at Riverside my significant other noticed the crowd in 5 guys and finally decided to stop and try it. Big mistake... we payed almost 20$ for 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 drinks.. the burgers were so-so at best and the fries just totally sucked...we waited approx. 15-20 minutes to get our food and couldn't even carry on a conversation from the screechin music and loudness around us... needless to say neither of us was impressed and with that being said that was our first and LAST time eating there. but i must say my dog enjoyed the 1/2 bag of fries...LOL

I agree with this review. I would rather spend $6 for the half-pound double at Wendy's with my choice of chili or fries & Coke Zero. Than pay $11. I can get a great lunch at Applebee's for less. I love their burgers too! Hardee's is even a better value. Yes, 5 guys is good once if you're really bored & want to donate your hard earned cash to small business...right?

I visited the Towncenter location, and I was extremely disappointed with the entire visit.

I love burgers charred over high heat, but the well-done temps simply don't work for many of us. The burger meat seemed to be a quality blend, but it was drier and tougher than any fast-food burger that I've ever tasted (Steak & Shake may be an exception).

The fries were another low point. Homemade fries was a big selling point since they are so wonderful when prepared and seasoned properly. The "seasoning" blend is a hack, and they were too soggy for my taste.

The atmosphere was loud and hectic, due to the high volume of the overhead music. We asked to lower the music so we were not competing with it to talk to each other. It reminded me of going to a busy bar during happy hour.

The tab was, by far, the biggest disappointment of the evening. We paid nearly $30 for two burgers, two fries, and drinks. For that price, I expect the quality to be much higher than a typical burger joint, but it wasn't. Five Guys simply doesn't live up to the hype.
