The Jacksonville Backyard BBQ Championships

Get ready for the Jacksonville Backyard BBQ Championships this coming May 16th. It's an amateur BBQ contest and fundraiser for the Glyn Cook Memorial Scholarship for Daniel Kids. Registration will be $100 for each BBQ team starting March 2. Tickets to attend the barbecue will be on sale for $10 (in advance) starting in April. The event will be held at Firefighter Hall (I-10 and Stockton Street, across the street from the firefighter tower).

We will tell you how you can register and buy tickets as soon as more information becomes available. In the meantime here's the gist:

  • Teams must be comprised of residents of Duval, Clay, St. John's, Nassau or Putnam counties.
  • The teams can enter in any or all of three categories: pork, ribs and chicken.
  • Winners will be named in all three categories as well as an overall champion, who will be crowned as the Backyard BBQ King (or Queen!) of Jacksonville.
  • Judges will include certified BBQ judges as well as local celebrities (to be announced).
  • No restaurants, professional barbecue cooks, or big rig cookers allowed to compete.
