Fu Hao Bistro - First Look

We've noticed quite a bit of activity going on at the corner of Park and Post Streets in 5 Points where the newest Asian restaurant, Fu Hao Bistro, is opening. Jacksonville Confidential reader Lindsay sent us over a couple of preliminary pics of the space, menu, and even a very special Engrish submission.

We hear that Fu Hao isn't going to be like the other Asian restaurants in the Riverside/Avondale/Murray Hill area, offering several types of dishes from all regions and hibachi grills. The place looks real classy.

But the outside is still hideously colored.

The orange and maroon is not as bad as the acid green they had originally painted it.

Not another Japanese restaurant!
Went to the soft opening today -- grand opening is tomorrow April 15th.
Food was delicious -- had a lot of items that you would find on a Chinese menu - is like PF Changs (menu wise) -- the renovations were very well done and the inside is very nice & classy. There were 5 in our party - we had the:
- szechuan chicken
- shredded pork w/ garlic sauce
- curry chicken
- mongolian beef
- chicken w/ honey garlic sauce

The dishes were between $7.50 - $7.95 for lunch portion and came with either soup/salad, fried rice & a spring roll. The food was not greasy at all - very good portion sizes for lunch. Their dinner menu had some really nice dishes on it - chilean sea bass (seems a controversial choice...but still delicious), mango shrimp, asparagus stuffed chicken and a lot more. Will definitely have to go back and try the dinner.
Service was great! Bathrooms were very clean also -- fortune cookies were NOT stale either!

Just wanted to let everyone know that while there for lunch today I heard from the head hostess (who I know from Sake House 1 & 2) that they are bringing in a chef from Hong Kong in the next week or so to help perfect their dishes. I would go back then when some of the 'kinks' are worked out.

Well, they might consider training their host/hostess a little better. We called for take out today but the hostess couldn't answer any of the questions we had about the menu.

I concur, the service was quite shoddy and I didn't mention that a bumbling waitress spilled a glass of iced tea on our entire table and we had to be moved to another table.

Not sure what's really going on with this place, it supposed to be a hibachi place but it was left empty for like a year?
Now they naming this place "bistro" to charge more for the same take out lunch menu as Hot Wok and China Joy down the street.

"bringing chef from Hong Kong" is kind of like saying, "we're asking our relatives to come help us cook."
