Latitude Cafe - Lunch Review

Jacksonville Confidential staff member Robin stopped by Latitude Cafe in 5 Points (1024 Park Street) today for lunch and has returned to the office with some pictures and a quick review of his meal.

Cuban Wrap $7.99 (most expensive item on the menu)

The wrap wasn't what I was expecting. The menu says "Spinach, Chicken, Cheese, Turkey, Ham, Lettuce, Avocado & Tomato", my sandwich consisted of: Chicken, Ham, Turkey, Lettuce, Tomato and Honey Mustard...no avocado or spinach and they added honey mustard to it for some reason. I ate it, but didn't really care for it. The meat was very sub par, almost like the meat you get on a really bad salad bar. It was served with a side of round (Dorito'ish) chips. The side of chips consisted of about 9 chips and they weren't that great either (a little stale). I finished the meal because it wasn't inedible. The service was great and the decor was really cute.

They had a selection of bottled beers and wine by the glass or bottle, a selection of pastries at the front of the restaurant, and some bottled beverages. The only thing I really enjoyed (and I mean REALLY REALLY LIKED) was the coffee. I had an Arabic Latte flavored with Cardamom to go, and it was absolutely delicious!

.....also, really awesome artwork on the walls by Jessica Dietrich, you can check out her art HERE.

I'll go here again for the coffee and maybe to try a different sandwich or two, but I was pretty disappointed with the food.

Yep. I had the same lack of avocado in mine. I actually took my wrap apart to look for it. Because advocado was THE REASON I ordered it. They did chop me up some upon request but it should not be in the description if they aren't going to put it in...I thought this was just a fluke, but apparently not.

Try the thai wrap sometime, and also the homemade soups, or the unusual columbian hot dog. Also the arepas and the sweet corn cakes are amazing, similar to the corn cakes at Chi-Chi's but better.

What are their bread choices? Pita? Homemade breads or standard run of the mill that everyone else has?Meat choices? Roast beef? Most sandwich shops do not offer roast beef, so i would be courious about that. Any salads? Price range? Robin, is this a review or are you just bitching about your meal? I suspect the latter. And I really, really doubt you could distinguish good coffee from bong water. Thanks JC for another insightful "review", really, really.

I was actually really excited about going to latitudes because I am such a huge coffee fan. I spoke with The Editor about it and decided to do a review. As for your questions about bread choices and roast beef, click on the link posted in the blog, and then click menu on their homepage. Everything you'll need is there.

No, I am not mad about my meal. Like I said, I will go back and recommend that you all go there as well. We here at Jacksonville Confidential support local business and would love to see Latitudes succeed. So, try them out for yourself and e mail your review to me if you would like RobinB137@gmail.com

Thank you for being an avid reader of Jacksonville Confidential.

I think our reviews of Chew, 13 Gypsies, Basil Thai, Casa Dora, La Fiesta, Moon River and all the others were fair and unbiased. Thanks for reading Jacksonville Confidential!

I am sure the wrap sucked - JAX is crap for food. And JC pretty much sucks. I have never ran across more morons than in this city. Extends to restaurants and blogs.

This is yet another pissing contest started by what is obviously the owner/manager/employee of this place taking objective professional criticism personally, and then coming on here to defend themselves by smearing the reviewer and JC. It's fucking ridiculous. Robin has no reason to lie, if he said his meal sucked then it sucked. There is no "conspiracy", and no reason for Robin to lie. How about you spend time improving your food, and quit leaving out the "money" ingredients and hoping nobody notices, and you wouldn't have a bad review to begin with! Seriously, WTF? I'd be just as pissed if I ordered something the menu said includes "ABC" and then I was served "XYZ". Either include the proper ingredients, or take it off the menu. This isn't Robin's fault, or JC's either.

I want to point out that, if anything, the reviews on JC tend to be overly forgiving, not overly critical. And most of the JC guys are small business people themselves, and certainly support local venues, sometimes to a fault. Speaking personally, I've been to several places that have received positive JC reviews (Preservation Chophouse, The Bungle on Park, etc.) only to find out they completely sucked. So based on my own experience, for JC to give a place a bad review, then it must be REALLY bad.

Anonymous at 4:39...Well said. I don't even come close to thinking that some of the Local Sysco food that is passed off on us is even HONEST.To many shysters and small portion bean counters around here. Get a clue and go up north to find out how to feed your neighbors, friends and family...quit serving freaking diet portions and maybe we will not think twice about whipping out a $20 every time we eat out.(Remember the movie "L.A story when they go to "Le Idiots"?)

If you don't like where you live. Please get the fuck out! Thanks!

Sucks for you that you live with your parents. Maybe you should work for JC. They get EVERYTHING for free!! Cars, homes, boats, food, groceries, beer, music, iPhones. That's what I heard!!!

Wow amazing a restaurant review could stir up such vitriol... However, I have to say that an honest restaurant review should examine more than one app/entree/dessert to have some sort of balance and credibility. I also wish JC would go and re-review some of the restaurants they have in the past... reviews from 2002 hardly count.
