Brown Brothers BBQ is CLOSED

We caught wind this week that Brown Brothers BBQ on King Street in Riverside has CLOSED. We were there just last week for some eats and actually enjoyed the BBQ chicken, fairly good collard greens, and crispy sweet potato fries. They offered an array of sauces at each table with all the usual's and a wickedly hot signature sauce. The lunch portion was just filling enough and the total bill for each of us was around $10 give or take some change and not including tip. The service was really really slow and we were probably one of three tables, we'll miss having a BBQ joint in the hood, maybe someone can open up an even better one.

Why is it that we can have a billion sushi places but 2 bbq places have failed in the past year?

So true Rev. maybe if Hickory Chips would've been in the Brown Brothers location it would have done better. I hear it was quite good but I never made it over to try it out.

They had great BBQ and will be missed. Another sign of the economic times? considering the building they're in.. They probably should just move into the space by "minks" and call themselves whiteway bbq .

What's the big deal? This place was the worst barbecue I have ever eaten. The ribs were parboiled, the beans were poured from a can and "spiced" with raw green peppers, and the special "sauce" was Texas Pete and God-knows-what-else. Good riddance to a horrible restaurant.

Good riddance...i'm not sad to see them closed...had a bad experience there ...$5 for a "sammich" on toast (not even garlic bread)...and had to ask for sauce....no fries...nothing...swore i'd never go back...now i don't have to....YAY!!

I am sorry to hear this. The guy trying to make it happen seemed real nice; he was in over his head. I am in the restaurant business. Being closed on Sundays when you are owner-operated is not advisable. As a BBQ restaurant, he should've been looking for ways to make some coin. So many people BBQ on Sundays, he could've made a killing just selling uncooked smoked ribs, etc. Anyway, too bad.

Gotta be open. Gotta promote. Gotta stand out.

Went here once about a year ago and was just happy to escape without food poisoning...

I loved that place. My life is over now.

The food was okay, but the cuisine was just a little too "black" for Jacksonville, if you know what I mean.

OMGosh too "black" for Jacksonville. When did BBQ become black. They served southern cuisine.

This is another place that was great when I first got went there, but then the original owners sold it and after that it went downhill faster than a falling brick. Last time I went, it was downright gross. Bush's baked beans from a can with some extra sliced onions, and the BBQ was dried out and had obviously been sitting awhile. Wouldn't even recognize it as the same place it used to be.

Yeah, I dont get the too "black" comment either. I mean, its BBQ.

I didnt realize that the place had been sold by the original owners, whom I believe are real brothers who are attorneys and have an office right across the street. That would explain a lot.
