Kickbacks has finally ditched the old stapled paper menus and replaced them with newly designed ones, thanks to Joe(y) over at Compound Graphics. The new design makes it easier to find your favorite dishes and ties in with the fun atmosphere of the gastropub. Most of the menu items remain the same with the exception of a few additions. Head on over to Kickbacks and check it out!

I am just curious but do you all have some relationship with this restaurant? You seem to be really pushing it, do they pay you for the advertising or do you get free food?
No free food or anything. We just happen up to the place quite often because of its proximity to where we all live. We've also grown to know the staff pretty well. As far as the menus and signage and stuff, we have been very vocal about the original crappy logos and menus and have urged Steve, the owner, to seek out a better graphic designer and such. Hence Compound Graphics. Our official graphics resource and personal friend Joe(y).
Thanks for the heads up, I will be sure to avoid Compound Graphics and Kickbacks and encourage everyone i know to do the same. It is apparent that JC is on it's death bed too as evidenced by the lack of responses to these lame postings.
Wow..you have those torches lit and the angry mob just waiting to burn something down......why are you anonymous? You should use the name "Piss and Vinegar"
The editor is anonymous, is he not?
Dear Anonymous: 3 things are without question regarding Kickbacks Gastropub. 1. Best beer selection in the state of Florida. 2. Best bar food in the city of Jacksonville (according to Jacksonville Magazine's "best of 2009 issue" and countless numbers of our fans/customers). 3. (and most importantly) Best and most eclectic customer base in Jacksonville. Old, young, black, white, straight, gay, bi, handicapped, etc. A collection of great people getting along and interfacing in a touching way.
These are all reasons why JC would "promote" Kickbacks. Kickbacks Gastropub matters. It matters to the people of Riverside and Avondale. It matters to the people that travel from the outreaches of the city and beyond to patronize us and be a part of something special. I've created this monster and I can't wait to be a part of it every single day.
If you deny the fact that Kickbacks Gastropub is an amazing place to eat, drink and hang out with unique, creative, smart and special people then you are doing yourself a disservice along with anyone who values YOUR opinion. Why tear something down that is beautiful to so many people?
Do yourself a favor. Stay anonymous. Keep your unfounded and childlike hate to yourself...and stay away from Kickbacks. We are a much better place without you and people like you.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Kickbacks. Great food, amazing beer selection, and the clientèle does indeed consist of lots of different people, from different walks of life, mingling and talking. That last facet for me is especially important, since I need to be able to mingle with different kinds of people if I am going to be truly happy living in any one particular city.
Anyone who argues that Jacksonville overall is racist, sexist, and/or homophobic (granted, it can definitely feel like that at times, in some areas) should go to Kickback's for a solid counterexample.
The douche syndrome is with JC, these people have accumulated many enemies and I would not want them promoting my business. Kickbacks is OK but it is a stretch to say they have the best bar food in the city, and additionally, there are more than one "anonymous" writers here so you are addressing multiple bloggers. And as someone pointed out earlier, the "editor", such as he/she is, is also anonymous. And i can see why!
That menu looks horrible. I mean the food sounds good but whoever thought that making the titles look like bum scribble drenched in piss was a good idea needs to be beat with a mallet.

I think you just described your mom's face on the night of your conception.
Awww someone upset at Compound? Quick, to the Gastropub for comped beers!
ooh, that sounds delightful. Good lookin' out.
WOW!...Who pissed in your Cheerios this morning?
The storm clouds are gathering, run for cover!
You're kidding, right? Do you remember the paper menus they've had for years? Get real.
That still doesn't excuse the menu design, it just brought it up on the scale of 1-10 from a zero (crappy) to a two (sucky). That's even pushing it. It is better than paper menus, but it still doesn't make the menu design suck any less. Ugly and bad design still reigns supreme on this menu.
Well obviously this is the design that the owner of Kickbacks liked best and wanted for his menus. I am pretty confident that Compound Graphics did not have the final say in picking the design and logo. This is an eclectic fucking gastropub that serves bar food, not Ruth's Chris sir. Your negative banter is not wanted here, so why dont you get off your high horse and move on.
xoxo
HEY! i like pabst...
dont know how long this chain has been sitting hear for... but wanted to say that i didnt know about the place till recently .. one of the guys at work turned us on to it, and now we order from there often.. the selection of cold ones is pretty large (even though they don't have my Kozel from Czech Republic.. grrr).. as for the menu design .. ya looks like stuff was scratched out onto the menu .. i don't know about the previous "paper" menu .. but in the end it doesn't really matter, most of the food Ive tried is damn good and in all honesty i don't go there or any restaurant for that matter for menu ambiance....
so with that being said.. enjoy the food and the mood, and if you have a better idea for the menu.. see the owner.. maybe you can make a buck in these troubled times... ohhh and enjoy a cold one too ...
If you live in riverside then you know Kickbacks is one of the best places to eat/drink. They have very unique/delicious food choices and a endless supply of beer on tap. Don't knock it till you try it....And as far as people making comments to encourage everybody they know to avoid kickbacks (I find it very doubtful they will...I have friends that i've known for years and years but I don't avoid certain places because they dislike it) The environment is very nice and the owner Steve walks around and talks to his customers like a old friend. Check it out for yourself...but I for One Love It!
