Al Hilm The Dream Cafe - CLOSED

Well, we totally didn't expect for Al Hilm - The Dream Cafe to close as soon as it did, given our so-so review of the eatery we expected for the place to tidy up and intensify the level of service and food....obviously that didn't happen. But according to sources and the accompanying picture (complete with U-Haul truck) it looks like the restaurant is officially closed.

I dunno guys, I usually respect your reviews. But the one for Al Hilm was shit.

I went to that place on multiple occasions and the food was great and staff was friendly. I'm sad to see them go.

Went to Al Hilm once and the service was TERRIBLE and the food just so-so. Ordered an overpriced glass of wine and stood waiting for 10 minutes while the girl behind the bar wandered around trying to locate a bottle of what I ordered, then tried to locate a bottle opener, then had to have a guy sitting at the bar open it ...
As for the food, most of it was good, but you could tell a lot of it wasn't fresh. I ordered the meat pies and she brought them out to me tough and obviously overcooked. It looked like they were left over (hopefully not off of someone else's plate) and had been stuck under a broiler. I definitely wasn't in a hurry to go back especially with all the other good, affordable middle eastern restaurants around town.

No, the Cucaraches in this former Bodega location turned resturant of the month...or the ones in your nasty bathroom..

I went to the Al Hilm after the mostly good J.C. review and found it to be absolutely terrible. "The Nightmare" Cafe. The service was awful because there was only one girl to bartend and waitress. The kitchen was sloooow the food was gross, stale and mind-bogglingly bland. Not a surprise that it is closed, it seemed like it was run by someone with absolutely no experience in the restaurant business. In a neighborhood like ours that is chock full of amazing eateries, you can't be that crap and expect to last longer than a few months. I do hope something good opens in that spot some day. I'd love a good Indian restaurant.
