West Inn Cantina is CLOSED!

This just in from a most reliable source....West Inn Cantina (3644 St. Johns Avenue) has CLOSED and will no longer be serving food. Avondale mainstay Monty's will remain open and will still occupy the space. We've heard that the closure is due to "recessionary reasons" and, as always, we hate to see a local business shut down. The good news is that the always happenin' bar and package store will remain in operation. We'll go ahead and welcome back our Monty's of the old day (most likely smoker friendly) and bow our heads in honor as the restaurant part of the establishment backs out gracefully.

Honestly, we weren't really big fans of the food at West Inn, but we've always been fans of the staff, management, and ownership. Let's bring back the old Monty's days......

Argh! I loved West Inn, even giving it preference over the new La Nop!

Good by West Inn. I'll miss your Salsa, and friendly staff. :(

The bar and lounge had never been named Monty's. People called it Monty's because of a manager who used to work there in the early seventies. It has been West Inn Bar and Lounge since at least 1974.

Actually it was at one time called Monty's but before most of us were born.

Prior to it being the "West Inn" it was named, "Hayes' Place" from the '50's until the early '70's after the then owner. When Hayes' son decided he did not want to run a bar, it was then sold and the name changed to The West Inn.

Prior to it being Hayes' place it was in fact called Monty's, again after the owner. My parents went there when they were dating as did the parents and grandparents of many of us who grew up in the neighborhood.

The name Monty's stuck and most know the place by that name.
