Jason and Robin checked out Tuptim Thai (5907 Roosevelt Blvd. #200) the other day for lunch and reported back some pretty positive comments regarding their experience. Affordable, atmospheric, and delicious. Tuptim Thai is quaintly nestled in a strip mall near NAS Jax in between Hurricane Grill & Wings and Tijuana Flats. The restaurant really creeps up on you (i.e. it's hard to find so keep your eyes peeled), but once you find it and walk through the doors you are immediately transported into a, seemingly, other world in the Orient. Lightly colored wood walls, theme appropriate colors/canvases, and family style seating adorn the dining room while appropriately dressed servers circle the cozy eatery with precision and great attentiveness...there wasn't a single empty glass or dirty plate on the table during the entire meal. The lunch began with a serving of twin Spring Rolls accompanied by Sweet Chili Sauce to dip them in and a bowl of Thai noodle soup. The Spring Rolls were nice, crunchy, and fresh...they were also unexpected and a delightful surprise. The soup was lick-the-bowl delectable with strong earthly flavors.

Jason ordered the standard Tofu Pad Thai as his lunch entree. The healthy portion of Pad Thai engulfed the smidgen of marinated tofu perched atop the mound of knotted noodles. He felt a tad "jipped" until he combined the crushed peanuts, sprouts, and a squeeze of lime. Once married, the combination presented a nutty, crunchy, sweet & spicy test of the palate. Pretty darn good/Could have been a bit better (maybe with a meat) but for $6.95 it was great and there were no complaints.

Robin's Pad Drunken Noodles (Chicken) were, by far, better than the Pad Thai...presenting a wider array of fresh veggie flavors and, possibly, 10X's as much MSG. He cleaned his plate, then licked it, and then asked for the mixing bowl to take home to cuddle up with. (Ok, yeah, that was ridiculous, but the Drunken Noodles were effin amazing). $6.95.

With a TOTAL BILL of about $18 for an appetizer, soup, and an entree (with an extra bowl of Jasmine Rice), we're going to have to give Tuptim Thai a 3.5 out of 4 stars for a great lunch deal. Stop in and check it out for yourself then let us know what you think. Here's what people on Urbanspoon are saying and some really crappy (a la JC style) menu photos.

I think the pictures are not too bad, good review!
The Prices peaked my interest....Shows the owners are ready to do some serious business.
Thank you for getting back to the neighborhood reviews we love! And please lighten up on 'Separated at Birth' also what happened to La Penqua (sp?)
Thanks!
After moving from LA, having a Thai joint around the corner was a welcomed change. The Tom Yum is also pretty fantastic. The dinner prices are a little more than I'm used to, but beggars can't be choosers.
the only curry i didnt sample yesterday was the red. i had green curry and finished every bite and then dreamed about it last night. the best thai i've had in ages! prices are low and the employees are friendly.
