Whisky River - Review

Jason and Robyn left the confines of Riverside last night to do some light shopping at the St. Johns Town Center. While there they decided to grab a bite to eat, so they went to NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s restaurant/club/bull riding venue Whisky River (4850 Big Island Drive). The restaurant just opened a few months ago and is the second location, the first being in Charlotte, NC, his home state.

The place is really quite huge, a large bar welcomes you as you walk in, dining tables surround the bar and adorn the walls. As you walk to the back of the building and go up a few steps there’s another bar and directly behind it is a mechanical bull. Scantily clad waitresses in skimpy daisy dukes and cowboy boots bustle around everywhere. 7PM must have been a bit early for things to be in full swing, the back bar and bull were vacant. To the side of the back bar is a large dance floor that was also vacant at such an early hour. After a quick scan of the inside Jason and Robyn chose a high-top on the outside patio, the weather was perfect.

The menu consists of lots of fried stuff, pizzas, wraps, and the usual bar-food-fair. Robyn had the Chicken Caesar Wrap with a loaded (minus the sour cream) Baked Potato, it was good, no real surprises, a healthy portion. Jason had the Two Wide Burger (basically a double First Coast Burger) with Fried Green Beans on the side, also good, very large portion. The Fried Green Beans were delicious, especially dipped in ranch dressing.

Final verdict would be about a 2.5 out of 5 stars for a filling and sort-of satisfying meal with no real flair or stand-out qualities. Next time we’ll go much later in the hopes of seeing something like this….

This club is good if you like places such as Callahan and Hillard. Why on earth is it in the Town Center?
