The Jacksonville RollerGirls just announced a deal with WCWJ, CW17, to air roller derby bouts on local television starting Saturday, September 25. Several bouts have been shown on Comcast Community Television over the past year, and now, the colorful personas of “Crash Register,” “Meow Mix Yo’ Face Up,” “Sara Quill,” and a host of others, are ready to show their skills on CW17’s new weekly episodic broadcasts, scheduled for every Saturday at midnight. Founded in March 2006, the Jacksonville RollerGirls (JRG) are Jacksonville’s first and only all female flat-track roller derby league. The JRG have since earned a reputation for hitting hard and playing strong against other leagues throughout the Southeast region. Comprised of over 70 skaters, the JRG are dispersed among four teams that compete on differing skill levels: home teams Duval Derby Dames, River City Rat Pack, First Coast Fatales and our All-Star traveling team, the New Jax City Rollers. The Jacksonville RollerGirls is member owned-and-operated and is based on the concept “by the skaters, for the skaters”. All of the league members are volunteers who are dedicated to promoting an action-packed, full-contact sport that is both a thrill to play and non-stop entertainment for the spectator. This is a great opportunity for those of you who haven’t attended a bout to check it out and see what all the buzz is about. It really is a great, action-packed, time.
