Vienna Garden Restaurant

Last week (for our staff meeting) we were planning on testing out the new Vienna Garden Restaurant at the corner of King and Forbes in Riverside. However, after perusing the menu, we decided to save the experience for another (more intimate) time. Mostly due to the overwhelming entree prices.

Well, over the past week several staff members have patronized the joint and every single one of them had terrible things to say about the experience. Most notably the horrendous service! Other complaints include the beverage (beer) sizes, cold food, and the price.

We aren't really surprised by any of this seeing as how the building used to be a convenience store. Oh....and apparently the place has not been zoned for their patio, so we suspect that the City will be getting involved at some point.

If you want to go our for a nice dinner.....we suggest Preservation Tap & Chophouse

Here's the menu faxed over by Vienna Garden Restaurant, we apologize for the crappy quality.

I too checked the place out this last weekend. The music was too loud, could not talk and there were competing players going so rock was coming from the kitchen and bad german music was playing in the restaurant. The food was pricey and not very authentic. The beers while interesting, were a bit much. The service was not great, but not horrendous. They bugged you a lot when we obviously had two mostly full beers. If they loose the patio, they will loose what could be good!

Why is the inexperienced bartender such a @%*#* ?

Many folks have come through the Vienna Garden bar and enjoyed great beer, radical pretzels, interesting German music, and our new, thumpin' jukebox. Many folks have left the bar smiling, and expressing their thanks for a good time. I'm awfully sorry that someone walked out the door under the impression that their bartender was a "@%*#*"-- assuming that stands for a 5-letter bad word. My good tips and repeat patrons indicate otherwise.

Regarding the original posting: It's unclear to me how your complaints about the restaurant relate at all to the building's former life as a convenience store. Cheap shot, or architectural elitism? Who can say.

Hey, give them a break they just opened! The food is great along with the beer, better prices than Preservation Tap. Vienna Garden has 15 beers on tap, a great variety. The location is perfect! I wouldn't complain about the service.

i think that the service is awesome and the food is even better and if you dont like that they have 15 beers on tap that most people have never even heard of then obviously you need to stick to gators dockside or whatever hole in the wall bar you came from!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to let you know about the bartender that you called the 5 letter word , she was new to the buisness and yes may have some things to learn but your not the brightest either!!!!!!!!

to the gentleman that reported that it was a "jiffy" store before , every resturant comes from somewhere and i think that the true patrons that have came in to the place loved the remodeling job , maybe you should check your references before your mouth starts spitting untrue rumors about the zoning wich is fine!!!!!!!

maybe the crappy fax is your crappy machine!!!!!!!

gosh yall have a lot of time on your hands dont you.cant we all just get along and enjoy the new place. if you feel the music is too loud , say something your the guest we will turn it down. the foods not pricey for the quality, and as far as bugging you, we are there to make sure that you have what you need and if thats bugging you , sorry.

THIS SHOULD BE THE ONLY REVIEW OF VIENNA GARDEN RESTAURANT YOU READ.

I went with three friends for dinner last Saturday night. It was prime time, and we were one of only 3 tables. Service was extremely slow and the food was standard. At the end of the meal, after we had paid, we got up to leave the restaurant. As we did, a roach crawled across our table. I will repeat. A roach crawled across our table. We told our server, who was extremely apologetic and informed the manager/owner standing behind her. The manager's reply, for all in the restuarant to hear, was this:

"We have an exterminator in every Friday. We don't have bugs."

If you enjoy being spoken to like a child after paying too much money for some of the worst food in Riverside, Vienna Garden is the place for you. I would sooner eat from a trash can than ever step foot inside Vienna Beer Garden again.

I have not been yet. After seeing the menu I am a bit confused. Is this supposed to be an authentic German-Bavarian type restaurant? The menu is a lot of fried foods, where is the saurbraten?? The dessert is tiramisu?? Where is the strudel? Latkes would be good as well...red cabbage too....
I guess the name is misleading, people maybe are going there looking for a more authentic menu, not regular american fried foods and sandwiches.
I will give it try though.

I live right behind the Vienna Garden restaurant. I was fairly excited to have it open since it is literally right behind my house. Now I wish they would go away! I've been over there twice, and both times the food was horrible.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that you can get better food from the frozen section in your grocery store, because that is seemingly where they get theirs! The schnitzel smells like it was drop fried in the same grease as the french fries, and the sauerkraut is cold out of a can.

The service isn't all that good, either.

I drove by there the other day during their "oktoberfest" and was disgusted when I saw a row of port-o-lets lined up right next to the outdoor eating area. Was the plumbing broken or something??? Maybe that is why there was NO ONE out there!

Some of you might be correct concerning the food they need to improve it! In my opinion and my families observation, the whole place is spotless clean and smells good!
Not to mention the super great beer variety they have. We didn’t experience any problems from what you all listed. We enjoyed the environment, atmosphere and will be coming back for sure. I guess we all have to criticize something or someone at a certain time, even the best and famous movie stars, are criticized on a daily basis by people that did not achieve anything close to what they have.

im the exterminater for vienna gardens and those of you who think you can eat your food and then say we saw a roach and think your getting a free meal, think again. and there not strictly a german resturant, its a european theme. im pleased their there.

please eat out the trash can #$%*+#@!... they dont need people excuse me , con artists like you there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey! I decided to check out Vienna Garden this weekend. It turned out to be awesome. The atmosphere was great. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! i loved it! The food and beer was really good!

Wow! Don't some of you have a lot to say. I advise you find something else to do on your extra time than that kind of criticism. I couldn't imagine what you'd have to say about other restaurants in this area if you have this many complaints about Vienna Garden. In my opinion, its one of the best restaurants around here!

I work in the same area as vienna gardens in. I was excited at first about a new place opening up here.I spoke to a son of one of the owners to ask what type of restaurant it would be. He showed me a preview of thier menu and it was awesome. good food and beer, and cheaply priced, I couldn't wait. So needless to say when it opened anad i went to check it out I was stunned that the menu I saw was completly differnt from the one i first saw. So I did some research and found out that one of the owners for reasons unknown at this time decided to leave. Well apparently he/she was the brains of the whole thing, because the menu they have now SUCKS!!! And on top of everything else the service is horrible, and the staff was inexperienced, and rude. I was in the same business for years, and can say that this place really is the worst restaurant I have ever been too. And to show proof of the lack of experience they have, look at how the manager/bartender responded back to the comments posted, comletely unprofessional.

And I also heard a rumor that they are priced so high because they only want people they consider to be "rich" which would explain all the rude service so many people have got even though most of us do tip really well. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, period.

To the last comment: I have no idea where you heard any of those ridiculous rumors because obviously no one else has! Sounds inconvincing to me. There menu is amazing! If you want some pizza, got to a pizzeria! It's a german-eurpean restaurant you know! The staff has been very friendly to my friends and I and we just adore the place! To anyone one else who has seen the comment before this, I hope you disreguard it.

just to let you know that the bitch(mary f.) that left was not an owner and the reason the menu is different is that before she left she persuade the owners to change the menu from the origanal version. so for that the owners are sorry , but the food is still great and the service is also!!!!!! my advice, dont go by what people say , form your own opinion!!!!!

i just got home from a wonderful dinner experience... i suspect all the crticism is coming from the competition... or closed mind americans... to be expected... if you have any connection with the "old continent" give it a try... you won't be sorry...

I've been to the Vienna Garden several times, and I have NEVER had a bad experience. Yes, the prices are a little high, but considering the area, it's not that bad. The food is awesome, especially the 'specials' that they started having. Their Tuesday wings this month for 20 cents each are some of the BEST wings I've ever eaten. How do you beat THAT!?!?

I've been to Vienna Gardens twice. Staff was nice and educated about their products. I did not eat but I drank and met met some cool Riverside people (I live at the beach). I don't get out to Riverside much but I know that I would frequent this place if it was closer to me. If there was a beirgarden like this at the beach...I'd be there, getting too fat drinking great beer. I agree with many of the writers in that it sounds like the bad reviews have been written by the competition and their friends and patrons. That is very business savvy, mind you, just somewhat teetering on bad business ethics. Good luck to Walter and Andrea.
PS...Andrea manages the place. She seemed very open to trying whatever might make her customers happy. If you live there and want to hang there, why don't you offer suggestions? Take care...

Any chance of Shinkenfleckerl coming to the menu? Now THAT and some goulaschsuppe would draw me in at least one a week!!!

has anyone realized that there is nobody at the restaurant to include the chef that is german?

Anonymous said...

have you realized that vienna is not in germany?

This place won't make it to daylight savings time.

Impolite and disrespectful management and ownership.

I own this company, (Trivia Team Challenge) jaxtrivia.com, and we work with 20+ restauranteurs. These people (Vienna Gardens) should close. They aren't pros.

I must agree, both times I have been to the spot, the service has been lazy at best, missing at worst. And many of the comments here are right: the food tastes as if it was purchased at Publix, and then stored for a while, I have had both the perogies and the more standard fare, and I can say that both times I was appalled at the poor quality of the food.

It seems to me that they are squandering their best asset, the patio, and are arrogant enough to believe that local residents don't know any better.

well you dont have to worry about vienna garden anymore they lost the best thing this restaurant had the manager the only german in the the building no more beer garden and the new management is doing pizza and cheap beer i went in there friday night the people working there should not be in public service. place is dirty and i would hate to see what the kitchen looks like. I will never go back with all the drama thats going on there now

Anonymous said...

By far the best pizza I've had in my life!

I went to Vienna Garden when it was first opened and didn't really like it too much because the service wasn't good and my waiter didn't seem to care much about me and my husband. When I noticed that they had a new menu and were under new management I decided to give it a second chance. It turns out I had a great experience and have been coming back- its actually my new favorite restaurant. If you asked me I'd tell you to give Vienna Garden a second chance. I know I did and I dont regret it in any way!
