Nobel Peace Prize

Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize this past Friday and we think it is absolutely LUDICROUS. The totally left-wing (and awesome) satire show Saturday Night Live even ripped on him this past weekend for not accomplishing a single, minuscule, thing that he promised.

Take a look at these other Peace Prize Winners from the past....Mother Teresa....Yasser Arafat....Kofi Annan....and let us know what you think about this honor bestowed upon our President, Barack Obama.

The NYDailyNews said, "In one fell swoop Friday, the Nobel Prize jury made a mockery of the world's most revered honor and handed Barack Obama's opponents a great talking point. They wounded two doves with one stone.
No matter how much you like Obama and his foreign policy, it is patently ridiculous that a man who's served less than nine months as President should earn a prize that eluded even Mahatma Gandhi."

We concur. What has this nation, world, humanity, come to....?

try watching this to understand a bit more about how many on the Nobel List you posted hadn't "accomplished" their grand purpose when THEY received the prize either...apartheid hadn't ended when Tutu got his Nobel...Middle East peace hasn't been achieved and Carter got his. The committee often awards the leadership that a person brings to a cause/issue. Like our president who is trying to lead the world again vs. the last one we had who tried to dominate it.

As was said above, the Nobel Peace Prize is the only Nobel prize where the act does not have to have been sucsessfully accomplished. Also, Obama's career in politics did not start when he assumed office, he's been involved in world politics for years now. On a personal note I think it's a great sign that the world is finally warming up to the United States now.

The NY Daily Post is a right wing rag, why quote them?

I appreciate the comments posted on here so far, and am somewhat surprised and humbled by them since, living in Jacksonville, I expected an outpouring of illiterate right-wing venom from people whose view of the world is shaped entirely by comic books and Fox News, tautology notwithstanding.

For what it's worth, here is the EXACT text embedded in the last will and testament of Alfred Nobel, the terms of which established the conditions under which the Peach Prize is to be awarded: "to the person who during the preceding year shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations and the abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses."

I was caught off-guard by the award since the application must have been submitted within two weeks of President Obama taking office in order for him to be considered in time for this year's award. But the Nobel Committee answers only to itself, it is a largely academic body elected by the Norwegian Parliament, consisting of five people.

A cogent, well-reasoned discussion about whether President Obama is deserving of this prize would be wonderful, but given the complete lack of dialectical rigor on our political Right wing, and the salivating messianic esteem in which he is held by much of the Left political wing, this seems unlikely to happen.

Hey JC, get the straw out of your noses, put the popper bottle down and go to the Metro or pick up someone on Craiglist, stay out of politics, restaurant reviews and anything else that requires a clear, reasoned mind.

I think its awesome that our President has been honored. What a great moment for our country.

The prize is really about the voters of the US finally returning to our place of leadership and progess in the world.

I know that Ive been breathing a hella lot easier now that Preznit Bombzalot is no longer in office.

I love Barak Obama. He makes me proud to be American again.

The Nobel Peace prize is a Joke.In past years it meant something...but after Jimmy Carter it was revealed as the European farce that it has become...Named after the inventor of Dynamite...how peaceful has an explosive been?

I cant believe that people don't see Barack Hussien Obama as just another new world order Puppet...Same as the rest that have preceded him.
I don't care if you call yourself Liberal or a Bush lover...get a clue and wake up!!
Has he really delivered on his promises?

How in the world do you figure that Jimmy Carter didn't deserve it when he got it?

Anyone can compare the President to Mother Theresa and find him unworthy of the prize. More amusing to compare him to the 1973 winner - Henry Kissinger. He was awarded it for his part in the Vietnam war.....

Missiles flying in Korea and the mideast. Russia salivating at Eastern Europe. Kooks attempting to develop nuclear weapons. Afghanistan is becoming a disaster. I feel very peaceful. Hand him the prize for economics while you are at it.

If you dont like what is going on then get off your ass and lobby your congressman or senator. What you have now is a huge mess left over from 8 years of G Bush. Look aroound you, all the closed storefronts and remember what caused all this, voting republican!

um the congress has been democratic since 2006. I really like how that has turned out.

Then lobby your Republican congressman or Senator, just quit bitching. Vote republican some more, we all see what that got us.

As usual stating facts mean I am scared and paranoid. Do not let the obvious get in the way of your standard socialist diatribe.
