The Truth About Piranhas

Join some of the Jacksonville Confidential staff this evening at Cinemark’s Tinseltown Theater for the 7:55 showing of Piranha 3D. This movie is going to be so crazy and cheesy, we can’t wait, and there’s already talk of a sequel. But let’s get real…those tiny little fish can’t possibly be THAT ferocious, right? Here are a few little-known facts about Piranha from the National Geographic Magazine Blog (Click the link for more info.)

  • Hunting isn’t typically their thing
  • Big (living) animals aren’t the usual target
  • It’s sometimes a piranha-eat-piranha world
  • They’re good parents—at least initially
  • Despite their scary looks, they’re actually cowards
  • 24 U.S. states have outlawed keeping piranhas as pets
  • In states where piranha are legal to keep in aquariums, one particular species is a favorite, the red-bellied piranha
  • Hollywood typecasts them
  • Theodore Roosevelt wasn’t a fan

See, not so scary now, are they? Well, maybe coming right at your face in 3D with a bunch of scantily clad chicks who are on spring break. Yeah, that sounds hot.
